NEW DOOR TO DOOR SERVICE
Making Oakville Transit accessible to all residents and visitors is a priority for the Town of Oakville. One of the initiatives Oakville Transit is putting in place that will help us achieve this goal is to move from curb-to-curb to door-to-door service.
This change is not just better for our customers; it represents industry best practice and also sets us up for compliance with pending legislation.
Effective July 5, 2009 Oakville care-A-van will provide door-to-door service for our customers.
HOW WILL THIS CHANGE MY RIDE?
You are no longer required to wait outside at your stop location. care-A-van drivers will escort their customers from the nearest accessible door to the vehicle and from the vehicle to the nearest accessible door. Drivers will provide reasonable assistance as required. For those living in a mulit-residential building, please note that the nearest accessible door is your looby door.
We define an accessible door as having:
- No steps for an electric wheelchair or scooter
- One step between landings for a manual wheelchair
- One step for passengers with canes/walkers or other mobility devices
Drivers will not assist customers to or from doors that do not meet the above accessible door standard.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AS A CUSTOMER?
- A clear path of travel must be provided between the customer's residence and the care-A-van vehicle; free of obstacles, as well as snow and ice in winter conditions
- Customers are responsible to carry their own parcels and personal effects
- Customer must be ready and waiting for their pick up 10 minutes prior and up to 10 minutes after their scheduled booking time.
